About Us

The Building A Better You Program is a faith based, grass root organization started in 2003 as a
personal life skill development fashion program for girls ages 10 to 18 years.

The Building A Better You program also offers fashion sessions for girls to learn fashion
etiquette, inclusive of runway, wardrobe, professional make over and photo shoot, fashion
shows and presentations.  We also explore different standards of beauty with a goal of
promoting a healthy body image and an overall positive self esteem.

B.A.B.Y., was started and implemented by Ms. Sharon Decoster who served for 5 years as an
Intake Counselor for a nonprofit organization that has also adopted B.A.B.Y., as a
intervention/prevention program to serve young girls who are referred through the Durham
County Juvenile Court System.

She is also a motivational speaker for middle and high schools in North Carolina.  Her profile
also includes working for the world's largest international modeling agency for 6 years as a
modeling/acting Agency Director, Runway Instructor, Talent Scout, Fashion Show
Choreographer and Promotions Coordinator.

Ms. Decoster attended the American College of Applied Arts for Fashion Merchandising in
Atlanta Ga and has a professional modeling career that spans 10 years.

Components of the B.A.B.Y., program has been implemented with non-profit agencies,
alternative schools, group homes and community centers in the Durham and Wake county
areas.

Giving all honor to God, the program continues to expand. In the Fall of 2010, the Ywca of the
Greater Triangle partnered with the Building A Better You Program.

B.A.B.Y. , opened its first office on Parrish Street, downtown Durham; but is now located in
Northgate Mall, on the main level, where the full program is offered to all girls from all walks of
life.

Building A  Better You offers a safe contemporary environment, in the mall, for preteens on up
to young adult females to obtain personal life skill development as well as participate in
fashion sessions to assist in promoting a healthy self image.

It is Ms. Decoster's belief that by tapping into these areas of life skills and personal
development during the early years, females will be empowered to become focused driven and
confident young women able to live and navigate successfully in this highly changing and
complex society.
